Live Bee Removal from a Sprinkler Valve Box in Las Vegas
Sunni contacted us after she noticed honeybees coming and going from the valve box in her front yard.
When we lifted the lid, there was a fully established honeybee colony that had decided the space below her sprinkler valves made a perfectly good home.
We see this more than people expect. Valve boxes are dark, protected, and just the right size, so bees move in and build comb straight down into the cavity, wrapping it around pipes and wiring like they own the place.
Which, at that point, they sort of do. Getting them out means removing every bit of that comb by hand, carefully enough that nothing gets left behind to tempt another swarm into moving in next season.
Once we had the lid off, we found comb in beautiful shape, packed with brood, pollen, and honey. We cut it free piece by piece and rubber-banded it into frames so the bees could pick up right where they left off, just in a hive box instead of a sprinkler system.
The queen and her workers made the move without much fuss, which is always the goal.
Sunni gets her irrigation box back without an bee population living in it, and the colony gets to keep doing what it was already doing, just somewhere we can actually manage it.
